Weekly check-up #writingiswork

Checking in on the end of the week progress

Okay – it’s the end of another week…did I earn those books I’ve been drooling over? Sadly to say *hangs head* not quite yet. That’s okay, I won’t beat myself up about it. I will of course continue to covet those titles I can’t wait to read – but in all reality I haven’t had any real free time to read right now so I’m not out as much as it would seem.

Doesn’t mean I’m not gonna set more goals and continue to try to beat them…just means I need to prioritize my time better. *nods*

So wish me luck because darn it, I have even more books I want to read—but in order to read them it might be nice to actually write my own so I can make money to buy them…lmao!

p.s. think I’ll add ‘reading time’ on my to-do list... :)

I'm all about rewards and consequences

So here it is, the end of the week. How have I done on my weekly work goals? Um…well…*hangs head* yeah, not so great. But I plan to do better next week!

In fact, I have to—I’ve decided to give myself some tough love. In other words…next week I’m kicking myself in the assets. I’ll write my weekly goals out tomorrow and by next Saturday, if I finish them all, I’ll allow myself to purchase some books I’ve been eyeing. But…if they aren’t finished I won’t be adding to my (already huge) TBR pile.

*nods*

Now, that’s something I can stick to because I’m good at not buying stuff even if I really want it… So, a little self-motivation might just help keep me on the straight and narrow. :)

Will I share my to-do list with you tomorrow? You don’t really wanna see the boring stuff I have to do, do you? We’ll see, how about that?

But I’ll let you know Saturday if I get to splurge on the books I’ve been drooling over.

Curious what they are?

I’ll list a few here (trust me, it’s gonna grow over the week, but I must be strong):

Callum’s Fate by Dianne Hartsock
Doctor Sleep by Stephen King
So Into You by Remmy Duchene

So hopefully I’ll be a busy bee and get my work done this week…because I was just perusing the Stephen King section on Amazon and there are so many I haven’t read yet…and so many I wanna get that I’ve lost over the many years. He’s one of the authors I like having in print and e-book. :)

And if I don't meet my weekly goals…well, I'm gonna have to put myself in time out in the corner with a book ~or~ perhaps give myself a spanking. There has to be consequences for being a naughty author…lol

A Good Cup of Coffee and a Simple Reminder Does Wonders...

So, I've been working through some stuff—nothing major, mind you...just regular day by day trials and errors. They just seem bigger and badder when they happen to you, right? When they are yours to triumph over...the "over" seems tall and wide...*sighs*

But then I stumbled across this cute little story—one that vaguely rings a bell in my mind, I'm sure I've read it somewhere before. I researched it and can't seem to find the author, but it is all over the place and I just wanted to share it with you. Maybe someone hasn't read it and would like to...maybe someone forgot it—like me—and the reminder is exactly what they need...or maybe someone would just like to sit down with their cup of coffee and read it again.

I wish I knew who the author was...
but this sure does help me enjoy my coffee more...*winks*

Grandmother says... Carrots, Eggs, or Coffee; "Which are you?"

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.

Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs and the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, "Tell me what do you see?"

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they got soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it.

After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The granddaughter smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked. "What's the point, grandmother?"

Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity--boiling water--but each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her granddaughter.

"When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I?

Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?

Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate to another level?

Being Ahead of the Eight Ball...

Um...yep it is...lol

I'm not gonna complain too much though, at least I woke up this morning to complain about it being Monday...IMHO that puts me ahead of the eight ball already. *winks*

Things to do today:

May I Tweak Your...Ear?

Okay so I’ve got a question...

Question Mark by Bushlemon
I’m finishing my antho short story this weekend...oh yeah, at least 6k coherent (that darn word just has to be a part of this conversation...lol) words in less than two days...*heads desk* Certain lovelies in my life think I can do this...I think I’ve got them all fooled, but dude, I’m gonna give it a go...lmao

Wait...I had a reason behind this post...darn those squirrels for getting in my vision...

Oh yeah...question.

And yes this does have to do with the story I’m finishing right now...as you are reading this...I am writing it...at this very moment...oh and that moment too...hehe

Um...sorry...question:

What are your thoughts on a short story with an open for interpretation ending?

Yep—I already have the ending planned...but I was wondering what readers would think about it...now I can’t tell you the ending...but I can ask you this question and get some ideas...if you don’t mind answering it...I’m not saying things won’t be concluded in the story—they will...but some things...well...

Okay...since I shouldn’t be writing a blog post right now...I should be writing on the short story in question...I’ll wrap this up—but I look forward to your thoughts, you can leave them here in comments if you don’t mind...or you can email me *big smiles* at havan<dot>fellows<at>ymail<dot>com (darn those spammers and squirrels...lol)

And thank you *hugs*

Dreaming Up To a Friday...

Good Friday one and all! *big smiles* Yes...yes I am happy to have the weekend ahead of me, so I can finish my antho piece hopefully before the Monday deadline...wouldn’t that be fun? hehe

Now...last night I had the most interesting dream—it involved an Egyptian Prince, zombies and football. hmmmmmmm...do I think this will ever make it into a book...um...probably not, but it was a very interesting and kinda disturbing dream—I’m just lucky I’m good with that...lmao

Well you all have a splendid Friday—I plan on being in my own little la-la world at the EDJ...it makes the day go by faster and I really like imaging my bossman in thigh highs, he’s a runner so he’s got the gams for them *winks* and it gives me something hot to daydream about...*waggles brows*

Until next time remember...
