When Patricia Logan was like a virgin…
So…in honor of my first solo release coming out this Friday—holy shite in just 2 days!!!! *clears throat* sorry...I've decided to celebrate by talking to some very talented authors about their first solo release! *giggles* You see…it isn't all about me all the time…but I do love weaseling my way into the mix most of the time…hehe
Today I've got the privilege of getting extremely down and dirty with a woman that can make you achieve orgasm in sixty words or less…*nods knowingly…stops and blushes*…yeah, don't ask me how I know that.
Anyhoo…Patricia Logan is here with me to discuss her very first release, Leather Nights, book one of the Armadillo trilogy. *looks at the entourage that Patti brought with her and swoons a bit*…um…did these handsome hunks help you with your first release?
Yes, this is Jake Maxfield and Cade Littlebear, my hottest hunks ever and the stars of “Leather Nights”.
No wonder my Kindle kept overheating. You know what—this isn't gonna work on the couch. There are just too many limbs that I can't touch you that way…*grabs every single pillow and blanket from blog and sets up a huge makeshift pillow pile*…there, now we can all just lounge around in any form of almost nakedness we want and enjoy this interview so much more. Cool with you Patti? *chuckles*
You are always seeing to the comfort of your guests. Thank you, so much.
Well I like to think of you as more than a guest...oh I'm all over this…*rearranges myself…rearranges Patti…moves my leg over* um…can you move your elbow? That isn't where it's supposed to…ahhhh…ummm…never mind, that's good…*sighs and settles down*
Hey, watch the grabby hands, woman!
It wasn't me! *points to Cade and giggles* Now that comfy cozy are we, I guess I should stop touching you and get down to the nitty gritty of this…union…*winks and smirks* Tell us about your first release…what are the secrets behind Leather Nights that we all want to hear?
I wrote “Leather Nights” in 26 days. It’s nearly 90K words. The words literally jumped out of my brain and onto the page. I had never written a male male book before and it was the most exhilarating thing I’d ever done. If I didn’t have to stop over and over again to take cold showers, I probably could have written it in two weeks. LOL
Oh a nice shower with the pulsing action can work wonders on your muscles and...um...never mind. What made you choose to publish with Torquere Press Inc.? Was it just luck? A stroke of fate? Did you search publishers to see which one would be the best fit?
When I wrote the book, I had no idea what I was doing. I couldn’t write in POV if my life depended on it. I submitted it to 5 agents and 4 publishers. They all turned me down but Torquere sent me back a note saying we’ll accept it conditionally once you fix the POV. I was terrified. What is POV? What do those three horrid letters mean? My author friend told me, and I was off and running. In the end, I had to write the book three times before Torquere would give me a contract.
And I bet they are thankful as all halibut that they did! This book covers some pretty heavy topics—first time manlove *swoons*, bigotry *growls* and teenage children adjusting to it all. It is a deep book for a first release, how did you hold it together to write about some very serious and real topics?
I have teenagers of my own and I know how snarky and sweet they can be, so that part was easy. Struggling with his father coming out of the closet was difficult for Thad but at 15, what boy wouldn’t struggle with it? Jake here *blows a kiss to the hottie* was easy for me. He was a mortgage broker who lost his entire career, his retirement, his money, his house and his wife. Basically, I just wrote my own life. I had been a mortgage broker for 18 years when the economy tanked in 2007. The bigotry of the rednecks was something I’d personally witnessed being an AIDS hospice nurse in the early 90’s. As for the manlove…. Let’s just say cold shower and leave it at that.
Yeah—I'm not commenting on the shower again...lol. Now if we could just focus on me for a moment—because goodness knows I don't do enough of that…lol… I'm personally going though some withdrawal anxieties with my boys…did you have any withdrawal pains when you sent your boys out there in the big bad world?
No because I write in series. In this case, all of my books but one have been set in Westburg, Texas so Jake and his gorgeous biker husband here *winks at Cade* appear in my other books as well. I have them in a brand new book coming out June 20th called the “Hot Summer Fun” anthology. I also plan on getting the whole town and all 20 of my characters together for a holiday story called A Very Westburg Christmas. So, no, I keep them in my pocket all the time.
And what man wouldn't like that! Looking back—now that you have more experience under your belt—would you change anything about Leather Nights or your way of handling its release?
I’d probably not write another “stereotypical” bigotry book. I think it’s over done a bit and expected when you pick up a male male book. I don’t like the topic myself but I picked the worst kind of bad guy I could think of at the time.
I understand that, but you handled it beautifully. As I stated up when I was manhandling you and your men…*blushes*…Leather Nights is the first of a trilogy of books…when did you realize this would be a series? How do the other two books tie-in with the first? You already mentioned that the characters are reoccurring...
It does tie in. Jake and Cade appear in both of the others. I think I first realized that it would be a series when I created Gage’s character as Cade’s sexy gay physical therapist. I thought he deserved his own story and who wouldn’t want to read about a black haired god of a man with violet eyes?
*sighs* No sane person I know...If you had to turn the experience of publishing your first book into an erotic novel…what would you title it?
“Cold Showers and POV Helldom”
*big nod* and here come the showers again...um...yeah. Colors can tell a lot about people and experiences…what color would you label your first foray into publishing and why?
Red, the color of love of course.
Now…time for the lightning round…*winks*…here are a few quickies for us about your boys…answer with Cade or Jake…
Most likely to wear a fedora and rock it… Cade
Most likely to be found barefoot… Jake
Most likely to eat food in bed *winks*… Cade
Most likely to want to measure endowment and compare… Jake
Most likely to find a stray animal and bring it home… Jake
Most likely to blow off plans and talk the other into staying in bed all day… Cade
Most likely to be wrapped around the kiddos fingers and give in to demands… Cade
Most likely to have a sweet tooth… Cade
In a silly battle of wills…most likely to refrain from…um…pleasuring themselves the longest… Cade
*rearranges self on pillow pile again so I'm leaning against rock hard abs and facing Patti* now for the bestest part of interviewing…*sighs and relaxes* Patti…will you tell us a story? Will you remind us why love is all important and how to be strong and stand up for the ones you love?
My little girl had brain surgery two years ago. As a matter of fact, I did my final edits and “Leather Nights” was released while she was battling for her life at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
When I drove home for the occasional shower, I passed a massive church on Highland Avenue with a huge red AIDS ribbon on the side of the building. Every time I passed it, I thought of the fragility of life. Nothing in the entire world had prepared me for the sudden discovery of a massive abscess on her brain when she was only 11. I lived and breathed the hospital for a month sleeping by her bedside and holding her hands as she screamed her way through each needle and procedure. I discovered a depth of love that I never knew existed. It made me see the world differently and I will always be richer for that horrible experience. Through the months of chemotherapy that followed and caring for her round the clock, “Undercover Nights” and “Warrior Nights” came to life.
Patti...you never cease to amaze me! *hugs closely*
Blurb:
When widowed, jobless, and about to be homeless Jake Maxfield inherits his Aunt Becky's home in Texas, the California native uproots his teenagers and moves. Still trying to rebuild his career after the mortgage crises, and to reconnect with the kids he's been too busy for, the last thing Jake is looking for is love. Especially with a man.
Cade Littlebear isn't looking for love either, but he and Jake have an immediate attraction that neither of them are able to deny. Just when they think that combining their lives and their teenaged families is going to be their toughest challenge, their very existence is threatened by narrow-mined bigots. Their determination not to hide who they are and refusal to live in the shadows only adds fuel to the fire. Can Jake and Cade survive and bring their lives and families together? Or will hatred win the day?

Excerpt:
"Cade..." Jake began.
Cade closed in, backing Jake into the pantry. "Jake, I was so worried. God, when I saw the bike... I thought..." His eyes filled with tears as he took Jake's jaw into his hand and lowered his mouth.
The instant their lips touched, it was like a fire consumed them both. Jake grabbed Cade's hips and pulled him forward, stumbling into the pantry shelves as the towering man took charge of his mouth. Jake pulled Cade's hard body against his straining erection and opened his mouth to the man's kiss. Groaning, Cade wound both hands into his curly brown hair.
Lust slammed into Jake's gut, hard and heavy, and he instantly felt an impending orgasm. With Cade's magnificent tongue searching out every nook and cranny of Jake's mouth, tangling with his tongue, Jake couldn't speak. He just ground his hips against Cade's, thrusting against the man over and over as he moaned.
Jake's hands ripped at Cade's tight muscle shirt, pulling it from his pants as he dug for the touch of Cade's skin. When he finally reached Cade's chest, he moaned again. Skimming both hands up under Cade's shirt, Jake felt the rippling hardness of his smooth, tight, abs, sprinkled with just the slightest covering of peachy-soft hair. Jake panted, hardly believing that he could be this totally on fire for another person, much less a man. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't speak. He was lost in the feeling of the huge, hard body pressed tightly against his own.
Cade’s manhood was straining against his zipper. The leather pants were tightly filled as his groin humped Jake's hip. He moaned loudly.
Jake panted into Cade's mouth as his fingers pinched and teased the big biker. "Cade. Cade, oh God Cade... I need, I need."
"Yes, baby, I know what you need," Cade whispered into his mouth. "I need you too, Jake. You've no idea how much I want you. I've been dying to touch you for days, but we can't do this here, baby, not now. The kids..."
Jake stiffened in Cade's arms almost instantly, squeezing his eyes tightly shut as he took deep breaths to calm himself. He knew he was moments from embarrassing himself and Cade and devastating his kids. He opened his eyes and gazed into Cade's green ones. His own filled with tears. "What is this, Cade? I don't understand it. I never wanted -- I never expected -- to feel this way about a man…"
